Yes, you can switch your GS Mini from its stock D’Addario XS Medium (.013-.056) strings to light gauge (.012-.053). It’s fine to do, but the guitar may lose a bit of projection, and a truss rod adjustment will likely be needed due to the reduced tension.

Will this fit in an airplane overhead compartment?
The guitar will fit in most overhead compartments, but you may want to check with your airline for their rules about stowing something that's not the dimensions of a rollerboard-type suitcase. Also, if you do place it in the overhead compartment, you'll want to make sure other passengers don't place baggage on top of the guitar.

Current models have a 9v battery under the control panel that swivels up. Older models use two CR2032 batteries that are held in place on the face of the preamp with a battery clip that lifts out.

Aging Improvements - Sweeter & Warmer
Just sharing that I bought my GS mini mahogany in 2023 and the mahogany tone keeps improving. I took this guitar for its annual checkup at my authorized local Taylor dealer and compared it to a new mahogany GS mini . The result was my 2023 GS mini was louder, sweeter, & woodier than a new 2026 GS mini mahogany; whereby, a lady said that the tone was better than a new more expensive Yamaha guitar that she was considering to buy. This proves that Taylor's mahogany tone wood gets better as it ages. It's so good that I use the GS Mini for my gigs 7 times a month. It's that good and I added a LR Baggs Element VTC pickup instead using the Taylor pickup system; but, the new Claria pickups look interesting.

Well made guitar for the price. The downside is that it's too small for me. It's difficult to play for my big hands and long arms. I will be trading it in for something larger. It's too bad because I really like the sound.

Absolute Gem
The GS Mini Mahogany is an absolute gem. Craftsmanship and build quality is excellent. The guitar is a piece of art. Sounds great. Tone is excellent. I really don't think you sacrifice much in sound quality with the smaller size.
Never knew smaller mid-sized acoustic guitars even existed until recently. Have had a few full-sized dreadnoughts, but always felt they were too big for me since I am smaller. The GS Mini fits me like a glove. Much easier to play and way more comfortable than a full-sized dreadnought.

The GS Mini Mahogany is the perfect small bodied guitar!!!
I just purchased a GS Mini Mahogany without electronics this week and I couldn't be happier. Yah, the GS Mini is made in Mexico and yah, it's lam on the back and sides and yah, it allegedly does not have the same resonance as solid bodied guitars and it may sound boxy sounding to some, but it's the perfect small guitar for me. It is so enjoyable to play and noodle on, that I find myself setting some other guitars down to play the GS Mini Hog. For me, nothing about the guitar gets in the way. It's ready to roll at any time! I really think Taylor nailed the notion of "value proposition" on this one!

My new love
I've had my mahogany version for 2 months and I love it. The warmer tone suits me very well. My large dreadnought has been in the corner of my room since. Neglected. The smaller size of the GS mini means that I pick it up more and I play it more. The tone is magical.

Worth Every Penny!
Absolutely amazing! Smaller form factor is incredibly comfortable for me, and does not sacrifice sound at all. The tone of this guitar is beautiful. I have dabbled with playing guitar for years, and recently starting practicing regularly but quickly found that I wasn’t happy with the tone or the feel of my dreadnought. Tried out a few dozen guitars at a local shop and found this gem. Exactly what I’ve been looking for!

Spoiling the kids. And Dad.
My kids are showing some interest in my guitars, but my acoustics are big ol' dreadnoughts that are just too big and cumbersome for them. GS Mini is going to be out of some people's budgets, which is really a shame, because this is the small guitar that all others ought to be measured by. If the kids are truly into it, this is an instrument that they'll grow with but never grow out of. It has a bigger and better tone than any other 3/4 guitar. It has a compensated saddle for better intonation. The tuners aren't finicky. It feels like a serious guitar, and it looks like a serious guitar, because it -- is -- a serious guitar. (Speaking of looks, check out the striped ebony on this fretboard. *chef kiss*) Truth be told... kids or no kids, this was coming home either way.

I'm a very new player and an electric wasn't meeting my needs so I decided to go to an acoustic. I was looking in the $200 price range and really didn't want to go higher, but after demoing a couple at home, an associate at my local music store recommended this one. They don't get commission and he really talked this guitar up (I was specifically looking for a 3/4 size guitar). At the price point I thought it would be impossible but they had a payment plan. It exceeded everything else I had tried so much I had to get it! Even as a beginner this guitar is so easy to play, stays in tune for days, and sounds so amazing! The store adjusts their guitars before selling and the action is so nice! Highly recommend for even beginners so if you're a seasoned musician this is a must have!!!!

My first guitar was an acoustic and i needed to improve on it. Took me 30 years. I don´t have much experience with other acoustic guitars to compare or even know exactly what tone i was after. I was also on a budget. But the GS Mini, since i picked it up at the store, i couldn´t let it aside. I've been playing for about 8 months. I bought my GS Mini Mahogany about a month ago. I love it. The sound is great. The guitar is beautiful. It's gotten many compliments and it is so easy to carry around compared to my dreadnought and its hard case. I waffled between the GS Mini, Taylor Academy 12 and a Martin 000 X2E. Great travel guitar. It’s obviously different from my full-size 724, but it plays great and sounds great. I keep it in my office, so it’s nice to have an option for a guitar that I can play when not at home. I also feel good about carrying with me when I travel and can leave the 724 safe at home.

It’s a great little travel guitar. The action is set a little high and I have since purchased a 812ce 12 fret, so I’m afraid my little mini may not get a lot of love. I will most likely take it in to a local shop to see if I can get the action set a little lower.

Great sounding guitar. I call it the little cannon. The ergonomics are a little different than a full sized guitar which takes some getting used to.

GS Mini is RAD!
I own 4 Taylor’s all are awesome. I must say, oftentimes I’m always strummin or pickin the GS Mini. You guy’s killed it with that shape.
