Overview
814ce
Watch VideoThere's a reason why the 814ce is Taylor's most acclaimed guitar: With its blend of refined craftsmanship, richly textured sound and artful aesthetics, the 814ce represents everything that we stand for as guitar builders. East Indian rosewood back and sides, a Sitka spruce top and V-Class bracing produce a lush response with warm lows, pristine trebles and a slightly scooped midrange, leaving space in the mix for vocals or other instruments. Ideal for flatpicked lead lines, strumming, delicate fingerpicking and everything in between, this Grand Auditorium acoustic-electric boasts a versatile character that translates beautifully in amplified settings through the ES2 pickup. A deluxe hardshell case keeps the 814ce safe wherever you take it.
Features
Go Inside a Taylor All-Star
The reliably rich-sounding rosewood/spruce tonewood pairing combines with the versatile Grand Auditorium body shape and V-Class bracing to deliver the quintessential Taylor guitar experience.
Grand Auditorium
Our flagship shape offers comfort and cross-genre utility, with a clear, balanced tone suited for both fingerstyle and strumming.
Indian Rosewood
The tonewood superstar. Popular, traditional, and versatile, Bob Taylor puts Indian rosewood among the greatest tonewoods ever.
The Taylor Neck
Introduced in 1999, the patented Taylor Neck offers legendary playing comfort, exceptional intonation and easy adjustability.
Spruce
The soundboard choice for most guitars, Sitka spruce produces a broad dynamic range and accommodates a versatile range of playing styles.
Expression System® 2
The Expression System® 2 captures more of a guitar’s dynamic properties using a breakthrough behind-the-saddle design.
Venetian Cutaway
The Venetian cutaway is known for its soft, round lines. The sloping peak of the cutaway will vary depending on the shape of the body.
V-Class Bracing
Our patented V-Class bracing is a revolutionary new pattern — a new sonic engine — that marks a major shift away from traditional steel-string bracing patterns.

Taylor 814ce added and compared to Martin D28 Modern Deluxe
My D28 has glue squeeze out and wood dust chips visible under the back braces and all of the rosewood vertical side braces are the same shade except the most visible brace (through the sound hole) is way lighter: nit picky but when you spend 4k$ on a guitar that’s some amateur stuff. Nothing to report with the Taylor in those terms!

Great guitar, but a good setup makes it better.
When I got home and spent a lot of time with it, I found it lacked...something. For some reason, I could never get that sound I got in the store. A few months ago, I took it to a Taylor authorized service shop for a setup. I don't know what magic they worked on it, but that guitar came alive after that. It has more sustain, a much better action (expected), and they also did a re-shim. Apparently, hanging on the wall for 2 years had moved the neck slightly causing a lot of issues. Long story less long, by having it setup, it went from a really good guitar, to a fantastic guitar.

Taylor guitars I've had since 1992.
Although I could not afford to keep them as I traded up,each guitar was of quality sound and well crafted.
The 814ce is the best Taylor I've owned.
Thanks to everyone at Taylor!
My Luthier had to do a
fret level and crown and
setup.
Just was wondered if this was normal.
Thanks for your support!
Sincerely,
Gary

I was worth it finally
I’ve never bought a guitar sight unseen before and never will again.
So how did I get the Taylor of my dreams? I live in Coeur d Alene Id. I took this guitar to Guitar Center in Spokane and traded straight across. Yay Guitar Center!!! This 814ce has all the boxes checked. Narrow and straight neck, great action, correct string spacing, awesome tone/ highs, lows and voicing.
So I give this guitar 5 stars and the first one 1 star. That averages out to 3 stars for the trouble I went through to finally have my guitar. Moral is, never buy without holding it and playing it.
I can’t imagine a mail order bride!!

Having been an electric player the 814 CE is now my favourite guitar - cant put it down. Great sales service from the local Taylor dealer supported by the Taylor rep.
Just amazed at the difference between the Taylors the mid level acoustic guitars I already had. So I bought one. I tried quite a few and finally settled on an 814 CE. I haven’t been disappointed. The tone is multilevel and majestic. The electric pick ups for live playing are solid & easy to use. You can play it hard or soft and it holds tune at least as well as any other guitar I own. The tonation is perfect across the whole fret board. However the stand out feature is the action - so easy you can play it all day and I do. It does that without fret buzz whilst still delivering massive volume. It has become my favourite guitar and I even have to diarise practice time to keep my electric technique up to scratch.

A stunning investment promising years and years of joy!
Acoustically, the guitar is absolutely stunning. It’s hard to explain, and I’m only an amateur musician, but I adore both guitars! Maybe like a wife and a mistress, I now couldn’t do without either! The Taylor has not diminished my love for the Martin; I just love them both!
Naturally the Taylor now comes out to open-mic nights, and my other Martin (road series) is up for sale. No comparison there.
In conclusion, if you think you ought to have a Taylor, then get one. You don’t “buy” a guitar like this, it’s an investment.

Great, but, loses tuning with capo
However, unlike my other Taylor, when I put on the capo it throws it slightly out of tune. I am about to try changing the strings to see if this solves the problem.
