The Presentation Series features an ever-changing selection of premium tonewoods, and for this Grand Auditorium PS14ce, we've opted for a gorgeous set of Honduran rosewood paired with sinker redwood for the top. Honduran rosewood is beloved for its powerful, throaty low-end response and clear trebles, also producing lush overtones that bloom as notes resonate. The redwood top—sourced from logs submerged in California riverbeds—adds cedar-like warmth and touch sensitivity along with a high volume ceiling that's great for aggressive players. A radius-style armrest enhances the PS14ce's playing comfort, and a striking set of appointments includes a Simons back wedge with an ebony backstrap and binding, paua edge trim and super-precise Gotoh 510 tuners.

If it's a Honduran PS, it has V Class bracing. Older models were build with X bracing.

Fantastic purchase
Received my order of this particular guitar about two months ago. After playing it for that amount of time I’m comfortable in saying that this particular instrument is absolutely amazing in both performance and presentation. I’m extremely satisfied with my order and I understand the severity of the price tag of this particular instrument but if you have the means and desire to purchase one it is an amazing piece of equipment both function wise and looks wise.

Best guitar I've ever played
I was considering many other models before I landed on the PS14ce. Everything kept pointing me to sinker redwood. The thought of bringing me back to my 714ce without the limits of cedar appealed to me greatly. It seemed like the equivalent of going from a car made in 2003 to the same make and model in 2023 with all the tech and performance upgrades.
After it came in the mail, when I picked it up, it was noticeably much heavier than any of my other Taylors. I literally looked in the sound-hole to make sure nothing was in there, causing the extra weight. Understanding that the Honduran Rosewood is a dense wood, I figured that’s what’s causing it to weigh more, but had no idea it would be that noticeable. This isn’t a negative mind you, I actually LIKE how this feels.
After a quick tune, I do a few basic chords, then I do some fingering. Played “Time in a Bottle” and a few other things. I’m completely underwhelmed by the sound coming out! Did I make a mistake? Is there something wrong? Did it get damaged in shipping? Why does it sound so dead? I don’t like this at all. Now I’m in a panic. I just dropped some major coin on this thing and don’t like how it sounds. This would be the first time a Taylor has disappointed me, but how can it be possible? This is supposed to be the top model they make. I did a lot of research, something’s not right. Deep breath.
I calm down and do a few more licks. Sounds a lot better. I do a few strums. The sound rings out incredibly well. So What happened between first playing it and the second time around? I don’t know for sure but I literally think I had so much anxiousness that it affected my ability to hear. Not even joking.
I play Keaggy’s “The Wind and the Wheat.” Wow! Not only did the guitar respond amazingly, it was noticeably easier for me to play than it ever has been. I know I automatically didn’t become a better player overnight, so it has to be the guitar. I run through it again. It’s definitely easier to play on this and I’m not imagining it. How is that possible? I don’t know, but it is.
Now I’m paying more attention and in a more relaxed state and this is what I notice. It’s balanced so well, it’s as if there’s an EQ controlling the tone levels. Not one voice overpowers the other. It will bring out whatever you want it to, when you want it to. There’s an even balance of lows, mids, and highs, that they all harmonize perfectly. I tried playing in drop-D and even with the extra bass, it still has this same balanced sound. That is truly incredible.
The standard description of the redwood is 100% spot on. It’s just like cedar, but fuller and louder. I love it! I really do still love my 714 but there’s no question this is a massive upgrade. It’s kind of like when Steve Rogers got put through the machine which made him Captain America. Same character, just immensely more powerful and better in every way.
What really stands out though is not how it sounds, but the way it sounds. The best I can explain it is it’s like a high quality surround sound on a low volume, which fills the room in a pleasant way that is loud, but not obnoxious. I attribute this to the Honduran Rosewood which is said to be better at projecting sound. Some might describe this as compression, but it’s not the same, although I could see how people would use that adjective. It’s so unique and an uncharted area of guitars, that you just don’t know exactly how to describe this effect.
Lastly, I will say this. You have to learn to listen to really appreciate this masterpiece. Just like there are literal courses to learn how to taste wine, scotch, food, smell perfume, analyze artwork, etc., you need to learn sound, or at least pay attention, to hear what voices are singing from the PS14. I’m sure an untrained ear will notice a slight difference between this and a $200 Fender the same way your average Joe will notice a difference between drinking Jack Daniel’s vs. a $1,000 Macallan. They’ll like the more expensive one, but not enough to justify the price. Only when you can understand what you’re hearing will you be able to understand why the PS costs as much as it does. For me, it’s worth it.

Couldn't be happier that I took the leap and purchased this guitar!
Lots of thought when into this purchase given the price tag. However, I couldn't be happier! The tone is just outstanding whether I am picking, strumming middle-of-the-road stuff, or playing the blues leads, it does not disappoint. The even tone across all strings is just outstanding. I recently did some recording with a condenser mic at the 12th fret and a DI from the pickup and the sound was sweet. Either output (mic or DI) could have been used separately, however, I did a mix of the two and liked the result - my wife heard it and said "that guitar sounds so good" (i.e. it made me sound so good:))
I play with a group of 12 guys almost every week and many have Taylors from across the product line. Some of the other models have a bit more projection but I am not missing that projection and none of the others can compare with the tone of the PS14, IMHO.
Re price, it was easier to think about when I considered that I will have this guitar for 20+ years (my previous Taylor is still providing joy after 22 years!)
And oh yes, the dark wood with the inlay is just beautiful - dark wood and inlays.
