The acceptable range for humidity is 40-60%. If you receive this alert, your guitar has been exposed to high humidity, above 60%, for at least 72 hours. Some symptoms of an over-humidified guitar are high action, dull sound, and a rippling feel to the wood on the tail section of the back of the guitar, which would be caused from the wood swelling around the tail block. (Please note: High action alone may be a sign that the guitar just needs a setup. Look for multiple symptoms when diagnosing humidity issues.)
Use the D'Addario Two-Way Humidification System to bring the humidity back to an acceptable level. The three packets included in the kit go inside the case with the guitar and will absorb the excess moisture. Give it three days to see any change at all and potentially several weeks to get the guitar below 60% RH. If there is no change within 10 days, we suggest using a more aggressive dehumidifier. See "Fixing an Extremely Over-Humidified Guitar."
