Superb 50th Anniversary Guitar
Superb sound - rich in both highs and lows IMO. Upgraded from a Grand Concert 812 (which was very nice) mostly for easier chord formation for my hand size - but also for a fuller sound.

Incredible Sound
The videos do not do this guitar's sound justice. It has a whole additional level of resonance and the overtones ring like a bell. It's got good bass, not a boomer, but mids and highs like you rarely hear, and its not even broken in yet. It may be expensive (ish), but it will become a daily player, not a case queen. I have a 1988 512 that has amazing sound now after 3.5 decades, this far surpasses it in sound.

I'm in love again...
Having happily owned a Japanese-made Takamine Santa Fe for a few years I looked around for a major upgrade. I wanted something with sinker redwood backed by something appropriate- either walnut or redwood. This Taylor model offered this pairing for a pretty reasonable price all things considered. Playability? Amazing- comfortable, like I have owned it for years. Sound? Much richer than the Takamine- the low and mids are much fuller and growl in comparison- the spectrum of sound seems 200% wider than my Santa Fe- approaches the sound of a 12 string without sounding twee or jangly. Just amazing really. Now, do you need to spend $5k on a guitar like this? No- its a totally unnecessary luxury, like a two-seater sports car. But is it fun? Yes, absolutely. I'm in love again and I don't need no two-seater.

Stunningly Good All Around
Bought at the Fret Shop, Huntsville, Alabama. Played finger style it responds well, producing a very pleasant delicateness and beauty without a trace of wimping out; the treble is among the most beautiful sound you'll ever hear. But then attacking or even slamming out some chords with a pick and it still drives composed. For an aggressive pick session where you're making sure all the people in the large room can hear you unplugged, I also have the Builder's Edition 814ce B.E. (see picture) with Adirondack top (vs. this guitar's sinker red wood), and it is no surprise with that top that the guitar is just slightly bigger with a little more bite and bigness in the low-end, but the 50th is up to the task too, and has an unmatched gorgeous mid/treble. Either is lovely sounding. The 50th Sinker Top model can have good volume without being brash and overwhelmed. The timber will wake up more over the years, but what's here already is sublime. The build quality is spectacular. The playability so good I've switched over completely to Taylor.

THE PERFECT GUITAR
This is my 4th Taylor guitar. I have the 618e, 414ce, 814 BCE 25th Anniversary and today I bought the 50th Anniversary 814 ce LTD. WOW! I buy guitars based on sound and this one is the best of the bunch. The first time I played it I fell in love with it and had to have it. The highs and lows are perfectly balanced. It sounds good fingered picked or strummed. It's hard to explain in print, but the feel and the looks are an additional plus. It is also a piece of art. I put in my order for the 75th Anniversary!

Just picked mine up today. I had played this guitar straight out of the box about six weeks ago and it seemed a bit tight, but went back and tried it again and totally fell in love with it. It's such a beautiful guitar and plays extremely well throughout the entire neck. And the sound when amplified is awesome.
I feel very luck to be a proud owner of this fine instrument and can't wait to gig with it.

Simply unbelievable
I just bought this piece of history today, it is the best sounding Taylor I own. The depth of sound and power that comes out of this thing when you wail on it is beyond words. It is also the most beautiful piece of craftsmanship I have ever seen.

5-6 month review
I wanted to wait until I’ve had the anniversary edition for about 6 months or so to write a review. I returned the Adirondack top builder’s edition to buy this. I absolutely love this guitar! Besides being a beautiful instrument with the gold accents and all of the comforts built into the builder’s edition, I love the warm lows and mids I hear from this sinker redwood top. In my opinion it is a much quieter guitar unplugged than advertised but I like that. Maybe it’s the way I fingerpick. I can always plug in for more volume or pull out the GS-Mini which is louder too. Did I mention I love this guitar?! In all honesty, I really cannot justify spending this much money on a guitar but it’s not just any guitar. I did it and I don’t regret it.

My last guitar!
I was looking around for my ultimate guitar at one of my favorite music stores in Spartanburg, SC and saw this inside a glass case. I was impressed with tone of the top and the Indian Rosewood back and sides. I thought it was kind of expensive, but they offered me a deal on a trade. In addition to looking great, it played smoothly all the way down the neck, the color and gloss finish are amazing! I thought the strings sounded different, and then they told me there were not Elixirs. It seems to sound better every time I pick it up, so I will probably keep them. My 914ce is great, but this one is a beauty! No need to look anymore! (I have played and sing in church, solo and in groups)

Don’t get much better than this
The One (out of 1,974 total!) I had never even seen a 814ce Builders Edition and this is only the second Taylor I have ever played. Talk about feeling unworthy! Yet every time I walk past it I hear “Let’s rotate some molecules homie” coming from the case … Thanks to any and all Taylor employees who had a hand in making this marvel.

An Amazing Heirloom Instrument
A true masterpiece. Photos and video cannot possibly do this instrument justice. It’s absolutely stunning and plays just as beautifully. The attention to detail on this guitar is phenomenal. From every angle you can tell this guitar was built by a master. The sinker redwood top not only looks amazing, it sounds beautiful. Rich lows and crystal highs are very pleasing to the ear. With only 1974 of these beauties being produced, I feel extremely lucky to own one. Great job to all at Taylor.

The very best Taylor has to over.
I just purchased this at a GC in Hollywood California. Given the price point, I was hesitant at first, believing there could be no meaningful difference between the 50th anniversary and other 814 BE models. However, I can attest there is a significant tonal difference between this and other 814 models. That hesitation proved to be unfounded. Instead, it offers an incredibly rich and established sound, as if already a seasoned and vintage instrument. It's esthetic beauty only serves to mirror it's immaculate sound.
